Sunday marks 23 years since Lenoir Co. teen disappearance, authorities sharing new details in missing person cold case today

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says a press conference is happening Monday morning to share new details in a cold case.

Officials say Sheriff Jackie Rogers and deputies will reveal new findings in a years-long investigation of a missing person.

Sunday marks 23 years since the disappearance of Timeka Pridgen, who was 16 years old when she was reported missing from her South Street home in La Grange on May 12, 2001.

The sheriff’s office has not said specifically if it pertains to Pridgen, but the sheriff’s office started actively investigating again in April of last year.

It was in May of 2022 as WITN’s Dave Jordan reported on the case that Timeka’s mother Cosandra Best told him, “Someone knows something and they’re just refusing to come forward and it’s very difficult.”

She first suspected her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend at the time knew what happened, and that hasn’t changed. Fueling her concerns is the fact that he’s been convicted of multiple sex offenses and kidnapping and served time in prison. But he had consistently said he wasn’t there that day.

The press conference is at 11 a.m. at the Lenoir County Courthouse.
