PROJECT BUILD closing major downtown Greenville intersection

The intersection of East Fifth and Reade streets is expected to be closed to vehicles beginning next week.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A busy downtown Greenville street will be closed through the summer for a facelift project.

The intersection of East Fifth and Reade streets is expected to be closed to vehicles beginning next week as part of the BUILD Project.

That $42-million project will create four greenway and sidewalk projects as well as three streetscapes.

At East Fifth and Reade, the city will install wider sidewalks, brick crosswalks, site furnishings, and street trees.

Businesses along the impacted area will remain open while the city is suspending parking enforcement in the downtown area until further notice.

They expect the streets to be closed starting Monday and last for the next four to five months.

The BUILD Project began last August.
