POLICE: Seven people arrested after shots fired call in New Bern

Police say officers were met with gunfire when they arrived

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Police say seven people are in custody after a shots fired call in New Bern on Saturday.

The New Bern Police Department says at around 5:20 am, they received a ShotSpotter notification in the area of 803 Content’nea Avenue.

They say officers were met with gunfire when they arrived.

Police say one of two officers then returned fire by discharging two rounds and retreating. The house was surrounded and secured.

While officers remained on scene, they say New Bern Alerts were used to notify subscribers to avoid the Sunnyside area, particularly Content’nea Avenue.

Evidence later obtained during the post investigation determined officers were shot at from inside the home.

Officers say no one was injured and scene was cleared five hours later.

Police say there is no reason to believe there is any further danger to the public at this time.
