NEW DETAILS: Highway 11 reopens in Lenoir County after big Pepsi spill

The Hugo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department shared on their Facebook page that a tractor-trailer overturned on Highway 11 Southbound between Sharon Chuch Road and Ferrel Road.

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A busy Eastern Carolina highway has reopened after a tractor-trailer full of Pepsi spilled onto the road.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. on Highway 11 in Lenoir County, just north of Kinston.

The truck, owned by the Minges Bottling group, overturned in the southbound lanes.

The driver. 42-year-old Mondrez Barrett, of Farmville, was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care with minor injuries. He was charged by the Highway Patrol with failure to maintain lane control.

A stretch of the highway, between Sharon Church Road and Ferrell Road, was closed for much of the morning as crews worked to clean up the spilled Pepsi bottles.
