Fire out at Lenoir County grain bin

Lenoir County Emergency Services says the fire is on Live Oak Hog County Road in Deep Run.

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Multiple fire departments in Lenoir County battled a grain bin fire Thursday.

Lenoir County Emergency Services says the fire was on Live Oak Hog County Road at Davis Mill Road in Deep Run. Records show J.C. Howard Grain Company is at that location.

Lenoir County Fire Marshal Jacob Turner says a worker at J.C Howard Grain Company call about the fire came in before 4 p.m.

Turner says volunteer firefighters from Deep Run, Pink Hill, Southwood, and Sandy Bottom had the fire put out inside the burning grain tower around 5 p.m.

“With something like this whenever it’s all contained in a bin like that, it’s really impossible for us to water down to where the actual smoldering material is,” Turner said. “We’re having to dump all of that into trucks and haul it away to a separate location where it can be spread out. It’ll basically just smolder itself out at a contained location.”

There were no injuries reported.
