Deputies accuse woman of concealing death of missing Farmville man, spending his money

Bobby Barnes, 60, was reported missing to police on Monday.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a woman on multiple charges after finding a missing Farmville man dead Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office says the man found dead in a mobile home outside of Farmville yesterday morning is 60-year-old Bobby Barnes. Barnes was reported missing to the Farmville Police Department Monday, May 13th.

Sgt. Lee Darnell told WITN that a man’s body was found around 10:25 a.m.

The sheriff’s office says they are waiting on the medical examiner’s findings to reveal any about how Barnes died. A family member WITN spoke to says his wife recently died.

Yesterday, deputies were called to the mobile home at 5226 U.S. 258 North for a reported death. Deputies say Kristy Gray was arrested Thursday for concealing Barnes’s death.

She is charged with felony larceny of motor vehicle, and financial card theft. The sheriff’s office says Gray was using Barnes’s financial cards for her benefit after his death.

Gray was put in the Pitt County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
