RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina second grader will have her art adorn a new calendar after winning a contest.
Sophia Gunn, who is a student at Chicod Elementary in Pitt County, was among thirteen artists selected as winners for the annual Farm to School Calendar Contest.
Each month of the calendar shows off a different student’s art and also provides daily facts about agriculture.
The contest drew over 3,600 entries from 56 counties.
The prizes include gift cards from the N.C. Farm to School Cooperative and the School Nutrition Association of North Carolina.
Students were recognized on May 17th at the Got to Be N.C. Festival in Raleigh.
We’re told that students receive calendars free of charge and that they will be available through the School Nutrition Program.
