A North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission biologist says the alligator was between nine and 10 feet.

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – A state biologist says an alligator hit by a car Monday only suffered minor injuries.

According to North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission biologist Chris Kent, an alligator was hit by a car Wednesday around 1 a.m. morning near Neuse Boulevard.

The biologist says the alligator has some broken toes, but no major injuries. As for the missing tip of the reptile’s tail, Kent says the male alligators fight to the death due to how vicious they can be with each other.

The alligator was between nine and 10 feet, one of the larger alligators, according to Kent.

Kent says it’s not uncommon to see alligators in Craven County, and wants people to note that the further south you travel, the more likely you are to encounter one.

The Wildlife Resource Commission biologist says he was released back into the wild.
