Woman injured in bicycle vs car accident in Farmville

In North Carolina, vehicles have to give cyclists at least four feet of distance when passing.

FARMVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A Farmville woman is at ECU Health Medical Center after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle this afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:30 pm on Wesley Church Road, east of Farmville.

The cyclist has been identified as Liza Hardy-Braz, wife of Steven Hardy-Braz, an advocate for cycling and disabled safety.

He tells WITN that his wife was the last of three cyclists riding single file on Wesley Church Road and that several cars had already passed them when his wife was struck by a red car.

The impact threw the woman off the bike and broke the car’s passenger side mirror, according to the husband.

The bike was broken in several places.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

In November of 2021, Steven Hardy-Braz was seriously injured when hit from behind while riding his bike.
