GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – WITN is taking a moment to remember the life of a man who meant so much to its operational history.
It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes effort to bring newscasts and programming to viewers every day and Tom Midyette was a strong force behind delivering that high-quality product.
Tom died this past Sunday in Greenville of natural causes at the age of 72.
From 1994 to 2017, Tom served as WITN’s production manager. In this role, Tom oversaw the staff behind the cameras that framed your nightly news and ensured we were on the air to greet you.
Tom’s history at WITN predates this leadership role.
Tom started at WITN in 1976 as a VTR operator in our control room after serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. In 1979 he took a couple-year stint at WPTZ in Plattsburg, New York as a videotape editor. He made his return to WITN as a newscast director in 1985.
Tom trained scores of WITN production members who have gone on to great careers. He was a friend to everyone in our original Chocowinity station and several years after our transfer to our new Greenville station in 2013.
WITN and those who knew him best send their thoughts and prayers to Tom’s family.
A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 24, at 2:00 PM at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 1:00 PM.
