Wayne County teacher accused of sexual relationship with student

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Wayne County English teacher has resigned after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student ten years ago.

Deputies have charged Andrew Richards with three counts of indecent liberties with a student.

They said on April 26th, a woman told them that she had a relationship with Richards during the 2014-2015 school year while she was a student at Charles B. Aycock High School.

The school system says Richards resigned Friday morning. He had been a teacher there since August 2011.

Deputies say right now they have no reason to believe that Richards was involved with any other students.

The 37-year-old man from Walstonburg was given a $25,000 unsecured bond.
