Wawa coming into Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A convenience store and gas station chain widely known in states up north is making its way down to North Carolina.

The convenience store and gas station “Wawa” is making its way down to Greenville. Three stores are expected in Greenville and in the next 10-plus years, Wawa plans to build 80 stores across our state.

On-going construction sites can be seen on Memorial Drive and Stantonsburg Road, that is preparing to bring Wawa’s into Greenville

The third location is expected to come near Aldi on East 10th Street.

Wawa opened its first North Carolina store in Kill Devil Hills in April and plans to invest approximately $7 million and employ around 140 contractors and local partners.

Marvin Minott from Rocky Mount says a Wawa is under construction in Rocky Mount as well and is excited about the positive impact it will bring to the East.

“It’s an honest living. Folks need jobs. Keep the crime down. If folks got jobs, we wouldn’t have any crimes,” Minott said.

Once it opens, each Wawa store will employ, on average, 35 associates with Wawa expecting to create more than 2,800 new jobs from the expansion.

Across the state, Wawa will be opening its first 8 to 10 stores this year and up to 15 stores in 2025.

Wawa stores in Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Elizabeth City are under construction as well with plans to open in the third quarter of 2024.
