Victims identified in Havelock double fatal crash

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – Police this afternoon identified two people killed in a three-car crash Monday night in Havelock.

Havelock police say it happened around 5:30 p.m. at U.S. 70 and McCotter Boulevard.

Killed in the crash was the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, Vladimiras Jersovas, 55, and a passenger, 66-year-old Ruby Rodriguez, both from Havelock.

Police say the Jeep was on McCotter Boulevard traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit two vehicles at the intersection with U.S. 70. The Jeep then struck a utility pole.

Rodriguez died at the scene, while Jersovas died later at the hospital.

Police say the driver of another vehicle was airlifted with serious injuries.

Havelock police continue to investigate what caused the crash.
