Veteran law enforcement officer named Belhaven police chief

BELHAVEN, N.C. (WITN) – A veteran law enforcement officer will be the next police chief for Belhaven.

The Beaufort County town named Wesley Waters as chief, effective April 15th.

Waters most recently was captain of criminal investigation with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

He has 22 years in law enforcement, getting his start at the Belhaven Police Department.

“I look forward to bringing my experience to serve my hometown of Belhaven where I am committed to continue building a strong relationship between the citizens of Belhaven and the Police Department,” said Waters. “Under my leadership, the police department will be dedicated to serving the community through crime prevention and community policing as well as investigating criminal complaints.”

Chris Kelly announced in February he was leaving Belhaven, less than a year after being promoted to its police chief.
