Upper teens targeting Saturday night; Wind chills in the single digits

Overnight lows will drop into the teens this weekend

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The first arctic chill of the season is set to arrive in to Eastern NC this week. The first round will move in late tonight and into Wednesday morning. Overnight temperatures will hover in the lower 20s. The second round, arriving this weekend will be intense enough to plummet temperatures. As a result of the potentially dangerous temperatures this weekend, the WITN First Alert Weather Team has designated a First Alert Weather Day for Saturday night.

Air temperatures will be dropping well below normal Saturday night into Sunday morning, potentially putting some in danger. Overnight lows will drop into the teens by sunrise Sunday, creating hazards for those with poor insulation or exposed pipes. Animals need to be taken care of as this type of chill can be extremely dangerous to our outdoor pets. Highs on both Saturday and Sunday will stay well below normal, maxing out in the mid to upper 30s both days. Winds near 10 mph early Sunday morning will likely produce wind chills in the single digits to start the day.
