UPDATE: Two killed in Duplin County house fire, SBI called into help investigate

Authorities say it happened around 5:00 a.m. on Highway 41 near the Duplin/Sampson county line.

DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Two people are dead after fire this morning ripped through a home in Duplin County.

Authorities say fire crews were sent just after 5:00 a.m. to a home on South Highway 41 near Powell Page Road which is near the Duplin/Sampson county line.

Crews arrived to find the mobile home on fire with flames shooting through the roof.

As crews fought the fire, they found two victims dead inside the home.

The right side of the home is completely gone, while most of the roof collapsed.

The fire was reported shortly after 5:00 a.m.

The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office contacted the State Bureau of Investigation, the State Fire Marshal, and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to help with the investigation.

Law enforcement is withholding the names of the victims at this time.

Crews are asking the public to avoid the area to allow responders to work and continue their investigation.

Multiple fire departments from the two counties fought the fire.
