ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WITN) – Rocky Mount police identify the victims of an overnight crash.

The crash happened after 11 p.m. on West Raleigh Boulevard at Walnut Street, near Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Rocky Mount police say two were ejected from a 2022 Honda HR-V Sport. We’re told one was an employee of the Rocky Mount Police Department, 25 year-old Netanya Richardson, and her 3 year-old son were killed in the crash. Richardson was a 9-1-1 telecommunicator.

The second vehicle involved was a 2011 Chevrolet Impala. The driver, 37 year-old Randy Sharpe and passenger, 38 year-old Brian Thorne were transported to ECU Health from serious injuries sustained in the crash.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Nash County Emergency Management, who shortly afterward began dispatching 9-1-1 calls, allowing Rocky Mount Police personnel to speak with Crisis Health professionals during this challenging time, and to the North Carolina Highway Patrol for leading the investigation,” said Police Chief Robert Hassell.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the active investigation.
