UPDATE: Pedestrian dead, driver arrested after Duplin Co. hit & run Sunday

The Highway Patrol says the driver turned himself in the same night the victim died.

DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Highway Patrol says a driver is behind bars facing multiple charges after a hit and run Sunday night in Duplin County, and the victim is dead.

The Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 8:10 p.m. on Pasture Branch Road near Browns Terrace Circle in Greenevers.

Troopers say the driver, Javonta’e Hill, didn’t stop after the crash. Joseph Boney, 29, of Rose Hill, was walking north in the southbound lane, and the car was also traveling north.

The victim died Wednesday around 4:15 p.m. after being seriously injured, according to Highway Patrol.

Also on Wednesday evening, officials say the 30-year-old Hill, of Rose Hill, turned himself into authorities.

Hill is facing multiple charges: felony hit and run causing death, failing to report a collision, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, hit and run leaving the scene property damage.

Hill is being held in the Duplin County jail without bond.

Boney’s family says he didn’t live far from the crash scene and that he was walking home at the time. They have set up a make-shift memorial where the accident happen
