UPDATE: Nash County provides more details on murder-suicide case

One of the victims is a 6-year-old child.

WILSON/ NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – More details are being released on a murder-suicide investigation that is spanning two counties.

Sunday, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and Sharpsburg police got a call around 5 a.m. to 141 Weaver Circle for multiple gunshot victims.

When they arrived, they found a male victim lying on the ground who had been shot. A female was also found with a gunshot wound. Both were taken to ECU Health Medical Center and are in surgery, deputies say.

Investigators say they learned that the shooter was Daquan Jones, 32, of Rocky Mount. They say that Jones left the scene on Weaver Circle with a 6-year-old who had been shot and dropped them off at a home inside of Nash County. That child is also undergoing surgery, deputies say.

Deputies say Jones was traced to a home on Jamie Road in Nash County. Once Nash County deputies arrived, they found the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway of a home on Jamie Road. Officials then approached the vehicle and found a deceased female in the back seat.

As deputies were approaching the residence, they heard a gunshot come from inside the residence. A man then exited the side door to the residence and advised deputies that Jones had shot himself. Deputies found Jones dead in the front bedroom of the residence, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any further information regarding this case, please contact the Wilson County or Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
