UPDATE: Man charged in triple fatal crash Saturday in Edgecombe County

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A man is accused of driving under the influence following a two vehicle crash that killed three people, including the man’s son.

WRAL reports the NC State Highway Patrol says on Saturday while traveling eastbound on U.S. 64-Alternate near Heartsease, a Saturn Vue driven by 39-year-old Jerry Pollard, lost control and hit a white pickup up truck traveling westbound.

The crash killed all three passengers including Jerry Pollard’s son, 19-year-old Jeremy Pollard, 19-year-old Jhawaiun Drake and 34-year-old Brittany Armstrong.

Highway Patrol said the victims were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the SUV in the crash.

Another passenger, 30-year-old Morgan Page, was critically critically injured and airlifted by helicopter to ECU Health in Greenville where she was listed in stable condition.

Troopers said they found beer cans in Jerry Pollard’s car.

The Highway Patrol says Jerry Pollard was charged with DWI and more charges are possible.

WRAL reports that a pickup truck crashed into an SUV killing three passengers inside.

The crash happened on Highway 64 Alternate west of Kingsboro Road outside of Rocky Mount.

Another person was critically injured and airlifted by helicopter. The driver of the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
