UPDATE: Jacksonville police say homeless man behind attempted bank robbery

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Police in Jacksonville have released the identity of the man they said tried to rob a bank this morning.

Police said that callers told them Matthew Bellotto entered the Wells Fargo bank on Western Boulevard and told staff that he was going to rob it.

Jacksonville police say that they received several calls about a robbery just after 10:00.

We’re told officers got to the scene within seconds and took the suspect into custody without any issue.

Bellotto, who police say is homeless, was charged with attempted common law robbery.

He’s being held on a $10,000 secured bond.

There were no injuries, police say.
