UPDATE: Driver not facing charges after man killed walking on U.S. 17 in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Police in Jacksonville say they are no longer investigating a deadly crash that killed a man walking on a busy highway early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened on U.S. 17, near mile marker 106 which is near the split of Highway 24 around 1:45 a.m.

Police say a car, driven by Bobbie Haddock, of Hubert, was trying to merge into the right lane of the highway when the right corner of the vehicle struck the man in an unlit area of the highway.

Investigators say no charges will be filed against Haddock.

Eric Fisher was wearing dark clothing, according to police. The 45-year-old Jacksonville man died later at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.
