UPDATE: Deputies detail charges against Southside High School students after gun & ammo found

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies are detailing charges against two students who they said were found with a gun and ammo at an Eastern Carolina high school

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said the two Southside High School students were charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property and felony possession of a firearm with altered serial number.

Deputies say it happened around 11:30 a.m. Friday at the school which is outside of Chocowinity.

Deputies say they assisted Allied Universal Special Police with the investigation after a school administrator reported a weapon being found. They say a .22 caliber handgun and ammunition were seized.

Deputies didn’t release the ages of the two students.

Both were taken to the Pitt Regional Juvenile Center on a secure custody order.
