UPDATE: Craven Co. bus driver charged in crash that injured five students

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Highway Patrol is investigating a school bus accident in Craven County this afternoon.

It happened just after 4 p.m. on Belangia Road near Adams Creek Road, east of Havelock.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a Craven County school bus overturned with five children on board Friday afternoon, the children’s ages, and what school they attend were not released.

Troopers say the bus driver, 36-year-old Katie Moran of Havelock, lost control of the bus, the bus ran off the road and turned over onto its right side.

Troopers say that all five children and Moran were taken to Carolina East Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The bus was turned upright and towed away from the scene around 6 p.m.

Craven County Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Wagner says they were aware of the crash.

Moran was charged with failure to maintain lane control.
