UPDATE: Carteret County deputies arrest Beaufort man accused in hit-and-run

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies say the Beaufort man accused in a hit-and-run was taken into custody on Saturday.

According to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, 77-year-old Melvin Davis was arrested and given a $15,000 secured bond.

They say Davis subsequently posted bond, was released and will have his first appearance Monday morning.

Deputies in an Eastern Carolina county say they’re looking for a man who is wanted for a hit-and-run.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office says 77-year-old Melvin Davis of Beaufort is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony hit and run.

Deputies say it happened during an argument over land Wednesday.

The hit-and-run victim, Michael Hargraves, was airlifted to a local trauma center but is expected to recover according to deputies.
