WILSON/ NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – More details are being released on a murder-suicide investigation that is spanning two counties.

Investigators say Daquan Jones, 32, of Rocky Mount is being accused of shooting and killing three people and injuring two others.

Our NBC affiliate, WRAL, is reporting from law enforcement that Jones shot his 6-year-old daughter, girlfriend Kiera Massenburg, and two friends Sunday before turning the gun on himself.

New details from records show he was released from the Edgecombe County jail earlier that day for assault charges.

Records also show Jones had a history of lashing out at his girlfriend.

Sunday, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and Sharpsburg police got a call around 5 a.m. to 141 Weaver Circle for multiple gunshot victims.

When they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground who had been shot. A woman was also found with a gunshot wound. Deputies say both were taken to ECU Health Medical Center for surgery.

Investigators say Jones left the scene on Weaver Circle with his daughter 6-year-old Zoey Jones who had been shot and dropped them off at a home inside of Nash County. Family has confirmed to WRAL that Zoey died Monday evening.

Deputies say Jones was traced to a home on Jamie Road in Nash County. Once Nash County deputies arrived, they found the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway of a home on Jamie Road. Officials then approached the vehicle and found his girlfriend, Massenburg, dead in the back seat.

As deputies were approaching the home, they said they heard a gunshot come from inside the residence. A man then exited the side door to the residence and advised deputies that Jones had shot himself. Deputies found Jones dead in the front bedroom of the residence, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any further information regarding this case, please contact the Wilson County or Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
