Two teens in critical condition after 4-vehicle crash in Bertie County

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Two teenagers were airlifted to a trauma center last night after a four-vehicle crash in one Eastern Carolina county.

The Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 305 and Hexlena Road, south of Aulander.

Troopers say a car on Hexlena Road ran the stop sign and was t-boned by a truck that was traveling on Highway 305.

The car then hit a third vehicle, which then struck a parked dump truck that was on the shoulder of the road.

The car that troopers say ran the stop sign was driven by an 18-year-old woman and her passenger was an 18-year-old man. Both were taken to ECU Health Medical Center in critical condition.

The intersection was shut down for four hours because of the crash.

Troopers have yet to release names of those involved and charges are pending against the driver of the car.
