RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – The number of children who have died from the flu in North Carolina continues to climb, as overall flu deaths are dropping

The state Department of Health and Human Services says two more children, between 5 and 17 years old, have died since the last report a week ago.

The state says total flu deaths have reached 281, an increase of 15 deaths.

Most of the victims continue to be those 65 years of age or older, followed by people between 50 and 64.

During the last flu season, 196 deaths were reported.

Flu season runs until the middle of May in North Carolina.
