Two men charged in New Bern shootout that injured three

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Two men have been charged in a shootout that injured themselves and a woman last week.

The New Bern Police Department says the shooting happened just before 10:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wyndsor Park Apartments on Wyndsor Park Drive.

Police say they didn’t find any victims in the area, but say a short time later three people showed up at CarolinaEast Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

They have since learned that Jaheem McDaniels and Jessiah Johnson were shooting at each other. Both men were hit by gunfire as was Britni Burns.

Police say all three suffered non-life-threatening wounds from the gunfire.

The 23-year-old McDaniels was charged on Saturday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held without bond.

On Sunday, the 20-year-old Johnson was arrested by Pitt County deputies on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He too was given no bond in the case.

New Bern police say they continue to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with information to call them at 252-672-4241.
