Two Havelock middle schools merging into single school

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – Parents of two middle schools in one Eastern Carolina city will have a chance to get questions answered on the merger of their two schools.

The Craven County School Board has decided to combine Havelock Middle School and Tucker Creek Middle School, both in Havelock.

The school system says it has a 2-year transition plan to move Havelock students to Tucker Creek.

With the merger, according to a letter to parents, they believe the new school will offer “a wider range of resources, opportunities, and support systems” for the students.

Currently, Tucker Creek has 503 students, while Havelock has 350.

An information session will be at 6:00 p.m. next Thursday at Havelock High School’s cafeteria.

In February, the school district received a $15.3 million grant from the state to add 20 more classrooms to Tucker Creek.
