Two dead, one seriously injured in Havelock crash

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – A three-vehicle crash last night in Havelock has claimed the lives of two people and seriously injured a third.

Havelock police say it happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday at U.S. 70 and McCotter Boulevard.

Police say a Jeep Cherokee was on McCotter Boulevard traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit two vehicles at the intersection of U.S. 70. The Cherokee then struck a utility pole.

A woman passenger in the Cherokee died at the scene, while the driver, a man, died later at the hospital.

Police say the driver of another vehicle was airlifted with serious injuries.

Names of those killed and injured have yet to be released by police.

Havelock police and the Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash.
