Two caught after attempted break-in at Kinston tobacco & vape shop

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – A man a a 12-year-old boy were caught after Kinston police said they tried to break into a business on Tuesday.

Joshua Barnes, 22, was charged with attempted breaking and entering and resist, obstruct, delay officers.

Police said video footage from the Tobacco & Vape shop on West Vernon Avenue showed two people trying to get inside. One was wearing a paintball mask.

The two ran when a business alarm went off.

Police said they were eventually caught walking through the rear parking lot of Lovick’s Cafe.

The 12-year-old was released to his grandmother and police say they will seek juvenile petitions against him.
