NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) -A donation was given to a non-profit organization that boosts a program for water safety measures for the summer season.

The Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern received 22 life jackets from Twin Rivers Paddle Club on Friday.

The Y says the donation will boost its Safety Around Water program that it does each year to promote wearing life jackets.

The non-profit program is to safeguard lives and prevent water-related accidents, by proactively teaching students how to react in unexpected water situations.

This program targets 3,000 third and fourth-graders from Craven County Schools, private schools, and home-school groups.
