Troopers release details on fiery crash that killed Williamston woman

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – The Highway Patrol has released details on a fiery crash that killed a Williamston woman Friday morning.

Krystal Whitley was a passenger inside a car that collided with a parked tractor-trailer lowboy that was partially parked on the road, troopers say.

The crash happened on Jones Road near the intersection with Holly Springs Road, southeast of Williamston just before 7:00 a.m.

Troopers say Linnel Outlaw was heading east on Jones Road when he hit the parked tractor-trailer. The man was able to escape from the burning car, but the 42-year-old Whitley was trapped inside and died at the scene.

Outlaw was charged with misdemeanor death by failing to reduce speed, according to the Highway Patrol. The 36-year-old was taken to ECU Health Beaufort Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the truck driver was not injured.
