Town of Belhaven to swear in new police chief today

BELHAVEN, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina town is set to swear in a new police chief Friday.

WITN is told the Town of Belhaven is swearing in Wesley Waters as police chief.

He was named chief effective April 15th.

This follows former Chief Chris Kelly leaving less than a year after being promoted to chief, adding to staffing issues.

Waters has 22 years in law enforcement. Most recently he was the captain of criminal investigation with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

WITN is told Waters will be sworn in at noon at the Belhaven Civic Center.
