Tornado damages Wilson County school, homes, and church

The path of the warning took the storm right through the location of the school.

WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A tornado has damaged several homes, a school, and church in an Eastern Carolina county.

Wilson County Government says that Springfield Middle School & Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in Lucama as well as 4 homes confirmed with damage.

Officials say there are multiple trees and power lines down from the storm and are asking people to avoid the area.

A tornado warning was issued for the area just before 3 a.m. and continued until 3:45 a.m. The path of the warning took the storm right through the location of the school.

WITN has a crew on the ground surveying the damage.

Multiple tornado warnings have flooded Eastern Carolina this morning as Tropical Storm Debby’s impacts are felt.
