“Thunder on the Hill” targets drug trafficking organization

Nash County deputies raided six homes in one Rocky Mount neighborhood on Thursday.

NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Deputies in one Eastern Carolina county say they have broken up a drug organization that they have been investigating for a year and a half.

Nash County deputies named it Operation Thunder on the Hill and it wrapped up yesterday with raids on six different homes on Star Street in Rocky Mount.

Deputies say they made some 30 undercover buys from the Puddy drug trafficking organization. They learned the organization had ties to gangs in Rocky Mount and were usually armed while conducting their drug business.

Three people were arrested after the raids.

  • Carvell Puddy was charged with trafficking cocaine and conspire to traffic cocaine. Puddy was jailed without bond on a federal detainer.
  • Tamie Battle was charged with four counts of trafficking cocaine and conspire to traffic cocaine. She was given a $55,000.00 secured bond.
  • Thomas Love’s charges include probation absconder, possess weapon of mass destruction and firearm by felon. Love is held under without bond.

Deputies say during Thursday’s raids, they seized four firearms including a weapon of mass destruction, cocaine, powder cocaine, and more than $12,000 in cash.

Helping Nash County deputies were the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco and Firearms, Drug Enforcement Agency, the Highway Patrol, and Alcohol Law Enforcement.
