Thousands without power along Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) – According to a Duke-Progress Energy report, over 3,600 customers are without power along the Atlantic Beach strip.

According to Duke Energy, outages are expected to last until January 21st at 12:45 p.m., this estimated time of restoration has been extended from the initial 10:45 a.m.

An outage was reported around 6:10 a.m. caused by damage to major power lines, according to Duke.

“We spoke with Duke Power and they are working on switching over some systems that failed. They are changing the power grid to a new one and are actively working to get it fixed. They should have it all fixed in a few hours,” Atlantic Beach Police Chief, David Clifton said.
