Teacher of the Week: Tina Petty

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – WITN’s Teacher of the Week is Christina Petty. She is a math teacher and soccer coach at Southside High School in Beaufort County.

Petty says she loves teaching the students on the south side of the river and especially loves when students say, “You taught my parents”. She says the school district is truly a family and the best place to teach as she has been teaching the family of students for 30 years.

She teaches Math 1, Math 3, Math 4, and Precalculus.

She comes from a family of educators and coaches herself. She started teaching at Southside High School in January of 2000 the school merged with Aurora High School. Her husband teaches alongside her, and her two children are also educators. Petty says her daughter is joining the Southside team next year teaching beside her in the math department. Their son teaches at Chocowinity.

Petty, her husband, and son also all coach the soccer teams together, and she says her daughter-in-law if one of the volleyball coaches.

Her nomination says she has no planning period and praises how organized, hard-working, and an amazing and supportive teacher she is.

Petty graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with my bachelor’s degree and ECU with my master’s degree.
