GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – WITN’s Teacher of the Week is Reginald Hines, a fifth-grade science and math teacher at Lakeforest Elementary in Pitt County.
Hines is in his eighth year of teaching. As a former Pitt County Schools student, he says he always knew he wanted to work with kids.
While pursuing his Bachelor of Psychology at Winston-Salem State University, he found an interest in education. There, he found his love for serving the underrepresented communities, and our children, who are the very foundation of bringing about change now.
“I believe that every child that crosses the threshold of my classroom is on purpose. I am honored to be a part of their journey,” said Hines.
Hines says his classroom is centered around music and vlog-style teaching, taking inspiration from experiences as a musician in a local church for more than two decades and a storyteller through videography.
He creates raps about topics they are learning and social media videos for his students to access anytime they aren’t in school.
“From the call and response interactions found in my Baptist Church roots, to the rhythm, emotion, and cadence of Hip-Hop culture; students have a space to express themselves, authentically,” said Hines.
As he teaches, he continues his passion for connecting people by creating social media content for Lakeforest Elementary and North Pitt Women’s Basketball.
