Teacher of the Week: Michelle Carroway

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – WITN’s Teacher of the Week is Michelle Carroway.

Carroway is an english language arts and social studies teacher at B.F. Grady Elementary in Duplin County.

She’s taught fifth grade for most of her 10 1/2 years at the elementary school, but in totality has taught 17 years.

Carroway says she always knew education was her calling after working and growing up around daycares and caring for children.

Her nomination says she treats every child like her own and does everything in her power to make sure students, teachers, and faculty have the supplies they need to well in school and beyond.

She says she is known for her tough love and encouragement at the school.

Carroway says the Duplin County Schools system is family and her family has blossomed within in it. She says her husband proposed to her at the elementary school by planning a fake fire drill, and both her children are enrolled in the school district.

Carroway says it’s rewarding to see the children evolve and grow into students ready for middle school. She says she has former student that teaches alongside her now.

“B.F. Grady isn’t just a school; it’s a community where dreams are nurtured, and I’m proud to be a part of it,” says Carroway.
