GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – WITN’s Teacher of the Week is Kate Lee, a second-grade teacher at Eastern Elementary School in Pitt County.

Lee, originally a magazine editor and freelance writer, decided teaching would be her new purpose after moving to Pitt County. Through the Lateral Entry Teacher and completing coursework at East Carolina University, she was able to get her license in 2019 and start teaching.

Now eight years later, she leads a classroom of secondgraders. Lee says she loves how this age group of students develops and finds their personality through the year.

Lee says her heart is in addressing the equity issues in Eastern Elementary School, specifically family engagement. She was tapped as an Equity Partner at EES, as well as chair of the Diversity committee due to the success within the four walls of her classroom.
