TARBORO, N.C. (WITN) – Police in one Eastern Carolina say two underage girls will face charges after one of them was accidentally shot late Monday afternoon.

Tarboro police say they were called to Pender Square Apartments and found one girl had been shot in her leg.

They learned that the two girls were inside a vehicle and that a gun was mishandled by one of them,

The victim was first taken to ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital and then transferred to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say both girls will be charged with possession of a handgun by a minor.
