Sylvan Heights Birds, Brew, BBQ, mark your calendars March 16

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Thursday morning, friends from Sylvan Heights Bird Park visited WITN News at Sunrise to introduce a new park addition and talk about a big event in March.

Kat Lewandowski, assistant educator and a bird handler at the park brought a baby Hawaiian goose, called a Nene. The baby bird is just a little over a week old. Native to only the Hawaiian Islands, their conservation status rose from “endangered” to “threatened.” The goose is known for its charismatic energy and lack of fear.

Anyone interested in meeting the baby Nene can do so now or on March 16 at the bird park’s Birds, Brews, and BBQ event.

The event, one of the most popular according to Lewandowski, is a family-friendly BBQ contest with food and drinks for everyone, and craft beer for those of age.

The BBQ event will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tickets can be found on their website.

Admission for those 13 and older is $40, and tickets for those 3 to 12 years old are $20.
