Sylvan Heights Bird Park spreading word about Volunteer Recruitment Day

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina bird non-profit park visited the Sunrise Crew with a special guest to spread the word about a few upcoming events.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park brought Aurora, a Cereopsis Goose, also known as a Cape Barren Goose, to hang out on the morning show, Thursday.

At only a few months old, Aurora has imprinted on humans and sees us as her flock. Kat Lewandowski, assistant educator at the park, says she is being raised by staff and growing up in their education program.

In order to keep things going like their education program and private animal encounters, they need volunteers. On July 13th, they will be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s open to anyone interested in volunteer opportunities at the park.

There is an array of roles to be filled like tending to the gardens, helping with school tours, greeting visitors, and more.

Also starting tomorrow, those interested will be able to make reservations for private animal encounters. During the 30-minute session, guests will be able to meet a reptile and bird, like Aurora. Kat says they will get to learn about the animals as well as interact with them.
