Swimming advisory issued for beach site in Carteret County

MOREHEAD COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) -State water quality officials have posted a swimming advisory for a sound-side beach site in Carteret County.

The state says bacterial levels found at the Sunset Drive access in Morehead City exceed the state’s and Environmental Protection Agency’s recreational water quality standards.

Officials say this is not a beach closing and it does not affect the entire Morehead City area.

People are advised not to swim within 200 feet of the posted signs.

State officials said they will continue testing this area, and will remove the warning sign when bacteria levels reach a safe level.
