Surf City police chief helps find escaped pet monkey

SURF CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Police are trained to always expect the unexpected, and that very thing happened this afternoon at one coastal town.

Surf City police helped capture an escaped pet monkey.

Chief Phil Voorhees says ‘Claire’ escaped by letting herself out of her owner’s house.

The chief, with the help of Pender County Animal Control, found ‘Claire’ on 9th Street. She was then reunited with her owner.

Voorhees says they are now checking to make sure that the monkey’s owner has all the paperwork necessary to keep an exotic pet.
