Stolen guns found after Beaufort County traffic stop

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A routine traffic stop led deputies in one Eastern Carolina county to recover stolen guns.

Beaufort County deputies say early Sunday morning they stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Highway 33 in Chocowinity.

Deputies smelled marijuana and learned that guns were in the vehicle’s center console. They found the two guns, which were stolen, along with a small amount of marijuana.

Tyrel Minor, 25, of Greenville, was charged with two counts of felony possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon, and driving while license revoked. He was given a $10,000 secured bond.

Deputies also charged Patrick Coffey, 25, of Grimesland, with simple possession of marijuana as well as being served with an outstanding warrant for not appearing in court. Coffey was given a $3,000 secured bond.
