State, local leaders announce Aurora revitalization efforts

BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Town and state leaders have announced steps toward revitalizing the town of Aurora.

Mayor Clifton Williams Jr. announced that Rep. Keith Kidwell secured $2.5 million for a satellite campus of Beaufort County Community College, which will be located in the new Aurora Industrial Park.

Kidwell says he worked Nutrien, a phosphate mining corporation with operations in Aurora, to make several initiatives possible. That includes making 26 acres available for the industrial park and additional acreage for affordable housing to support and draw new Nutrien employees to the area.

Leaders say Nutrien has also agreed to spend more locally to support the town’s economic development.

Williams says he is also working with Kidwell and the North Carolina Department of Fish and Wildlife for possible improvements to the town’s boat ramp, restrooms, shower, and gas pumps to draw more visitors to the area.
