Six ENC teens among 105 semifinalists for Homefront’s Military Child of the Year

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Six teens from eastern North Carolina representing the Navy and Marine Corps are in the final running for the 2024 Military Child of the Year award.

Organizers say the Military Child of the Year Award is the nation’s premier tribute to the accomplishments of America’s military children, recognizing the positive influence they have on their families, schools, and communities, despite the unique challenges these young people often face as they serve our nation alongside their parents.

Six eastern North Carolina students have been selected as part of the group of 105 semifinalists. This group of six students represents both the Navy and Marine Corps.

  • Izel Bernal, 17, Hubert, NC (Marine Corps)
  • Caroline Lott, 17, Hubert, NC (Marine Corps)
  • Andrew Driscoll, 17, Camp Lejeune, NC (Marine Corps)
  • Matthew Barbabella, 15, Camp Lejeune, NC (Navy)
  • Allison Frazier, 17, Swansboro, NC (Marine Corps)
  • Brynlee Nodurft, 17, Sneads Ferry, NC (Marine Corps)

Finalists will be chosen in February by a panel of independent judges. A winner from each of the seven military branches will be chosen and announced in March. Each of the seven winners will receive $10,000, a laptop computer, and other gifts held at a gala in their honor in Washington, D.C. in April.
